Advance praise for Alison Lohans’ PICTURING ALYSSA

Alison Lohans YA novel DundurnAs you may know, Alison Lohans, the prolific author of young adult and children’s books, has a new novel out this September. Picturing Alyssa, published by Dundurn Press, follows Alyssa Dixon as a photograph literally transports her to an Iowa farm in the middle of the Great Depression.

Writing time-travel can be tricky for even the most veteran writers, but as this advance review from the Saskatoon Star Phoenixnotes, Lohans handles the matter with skill and aplomb:

In the hands of experienced writers [Winter Shadows author Margaret Buffie] and Lohans, the shifts between past and present are easily navigated by readers. The brooch in Winter Shadows and the photograph in Picturing Alyssa both operate smoothly to convey characters through time and space. At first stricken with confusion, and then with growing understanding and control, these two protagonists are strikingly convincing within the suspension of disbelief conjured by good fantasy. Both books are highly recommended for ages 11 and up.

But don’t let the carefully rendered time-travel fool you: Picturing Alyssa is a topical, contemporary read that deals with real issues, like bullying and parental depression, and the relatable heroine ensures that readers are in for a real treat!
