Scarsbrook’s good “Fortune”: New poem nominated for Winston Collins/Descant Prize

Monkeyface Chronicle ya author young adult writer award winning CanadianRichard Scarsbrook–author of a number of popular young adult novels, including the White Pine Award-winning The Monkeyface Chronicles (Thistledown 2010)–is branching out. Following the announcement that his first poetry collection, Outtakes, will be published by Turnstone Press later this year is news of a poetry-award nomination. “Fortune,” which is included in Outtakes, is nominated for the Winston Collins/Descant Prize for Best Canadian Poem.

The prize, which was first awarded in 2007, is given in honour of former University of Toronto poetry professor Winston Collins, “to con­tinue Collins’ career-long encour­age­ment of devel­op­ing writers and to com­mem­or­ate his love of poetry.” The winning poem, judged by philosopher Mark Kingwell and writer-artist Leanne Shapton, will be published in this summer’s Descant.
