Taking her quest to Ottawa: Dr. Gretchen Roedde brings maternal health care concerns to the capital

Dr. Gretchen Roedde maternal health care mother child bookWith the United Nations Population Fund recently declaring contraception a human right, maternal health care in the developing world is back in the public eye. Working to keep it there is Dr. Gretchen Roedde, author of the bestselling A Doctor’s Quest: The Struggle for Mother-and-Child Health Around the Globe (Dundurn 2012) and the subject of a new Ottawa Citizen profile. The profile coincides with Dr. Roedde’s attendance at a number of Ottawa events, including ones with the Canadian Society for International Health and the Canadian International Development Agency.

Since 1987, Dr. Roedde has split her time between her practice in Northern Ontario and her work in public health in countries such as the Sudan, Bangladesh, China, and Papua New Guinea. A Doctor’s Quest chronicles Dr. Roedde’s experiences overseas, and calls on the international community to support better maternal health care in the developing world.
